Ner’s new book is illustrated. She will polish and tune it up and try to get it published.

bonk

It’s a scary story about monsters that make little kids go to bed by 6:24. Staring cartoon kid heros who look a lot like Emily, Noah, and Maisie.

Ner's Book

And monsters who look a lot like ….. well they just do look like someone.

Coming to a bookstore near you soon.

Too bad her dad doesnt’ dote on her. Too bad she doesn’t have her dad wrapped around her little finger. Too bad her dad don’t think the sun rises and sets in her.

Professor

Friday, December 22nd, 2006

This was making the rounds so I thought I would share it.

A United States Marine was attending some college courses between assignments.  He had completed missions in Iraq and Afganistan. One of the courses had a professor who was an avowed atheist and a member of the ACLU.

One day the professor shocked the class when he came in. He looked to the ceiling and flately stated, “God, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform. I’ll give you exactly 15 minutes.” The lecture room fell silent.  You could hear a pin drop. Ten minutes went by and the professor proclaimed, “Here I am God. I’m still waiting.” It got down to the last couple of minutes when the Marine got out of his chair, went up to the professor, and cold-cocked him; knocking him off the platform. The professor was out cold.

The Marine went bac to his seat and sat there silently. The other students were shocked and stunned and sat there looking on in silence. The professor eventually came to, noticeably shaken, looked at the Marine and asked, “What the hell is the matter with you? Why did you do that?”  The Marine calmly replied, “God was too busy today protecting America’s soldiers who are protecting your right to say stupid shit and act like an asshole. So He sent me.”

Great Weekend

Monday, December 18th, 2006

Ma and I got to spend the weekend with Beth Chris and Eva. Like with the other grand kids Eva is a beautiful contented child. She is fortunate to have parents who very much want her.

Ma and I travelled home tonight.  We were relieved by Ram, who had his first opportunity to see his Neice Eva in person.

Ram is on his way  to spend the Christmas holidays at home.

It’s funny, how the torch is passed. Ma and I had our prime.  We loved every minute. In the decades to come Chris and Beth and Ram will be able to remember how they got to spend this weekend together.

Life is good.

Happy Birthday Mrs Diva

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Thanks to Mrs Diva, a official member of the “Church Ladies”. There is no finer group of troop supporters anywhere. Ma and Ram and Eva all share December birthdays with Mrs Diva.  And thanks to Karen for letting us know.

And from Karen we share this:

“The Packercheerleaders, Barbara and Margaret (who hold no grudges) and I would like to take this time to wish one of our favorite troop supporters, Mrs. Diva, a very happy birthday.”

We understand that  the weather in CheeseHead land is so pleasant, that Margaret and Barbara had the chance to play some golf. So we share their photo and their wishes for a Merry Christmas to all.

Golf with the Girls

Name one other blog that has their own cheerleaders. HA!

Weekend at Eva’s

Thursday, December 14th, 2006

Ma is well.  We will be travelling to a city in the east to visit Chris, Beth and Eva. (Eva is the short one).

Needless to say we are excited. Travel there on Saturday and leave Sunday.

Life is good.

Short update, Ram and CheeseHead are still out in the Magical Forest.  We think they may get back tomorrow or over the weekend.

Not Half the Man

Tuesday, December 12th, 2006

At 14 his dad died. He was only two weeks into his high school education. He felt compelled to quit and get a job to earn money to feed his brother and sisters and mother.  Times were tough. I never knew the man to complain.  He was my dad. I called him Pop.

Pop

He worked all his life. He lived and worked through the Great Depression, earning a living for his family.

Pearl Harbor. All the young men and not so young went down to enlist. Pop went to enlist for the Navy. He liked beans. He thought they ate Navy beans.  They told him … you are too old Pops … go home. He went home.  A few weeks later he was drafted into the Army. He was in his mid 30’s. Because of his age he was rapidly promoted to Sergeant. Then to Platoon Sergeant. He was a member of the 41st Infantry Division. He was a machine gunner. He fought in New Guinea and the Philippines. He did not consider himself a hero and only told the funny stories.

But sometimes late at night he smoked cigarettes in the dark, and thought.  Now and then he was around someone he served with and the stories were quiet and away from the kid.

There was a part of him I would never touch.

But it didn’t matter. He was my dad and we did things together.

Pop Sgt

He aged by the time the war was over. He was harder and tougher. Pop was not a career soldier. He was the typical citizen soldier. He was there when his country needed him. He survived. He was glad to get out after the war was over. There are so many Americans like him.

He was my inspiration, and Ram feels his presence too. I am not and will never be half the man he was.

Thanks Pop
