Okay I can’t help myself.

Beth is busy at the task of Chick-a-fieing Miss Eva. And in the following photo we can tell definitely that .. the act of wearing sun glasses is an unnatural act. It takes a girl some time to adapt to it.

Miss Eva Shades

Who is it behind those Foster Grants? Undoubtedly Beth is taking Eva to the nail salon for a fancy manicure. I swear I just don’t think Beth is gonna let me do the GI Jane training with Eva.

Crazy Lazy Hazy Days of Summer

Hippies Smell

Tuesday, May 22nd, 2007

Yes it’s true .. here is proof positive:

German authorities use scent tracking to keep tabs on G8 protesters;

BERLIN (AP) - German authorities are using scent tracking to keep tabs on possibly violent protesters against next month’s Group of Eight summit - a tactic that is drawing comparisons with the methods of former East Germany’s secret police.

Scent samples have been taken from an undisclosed number of people believed to be a possible danger to the upcoming summit so that police dogs can pick out the perpetrators if there is violence, the Hamburger Morgenpost reported Tuesday.

Now it is a matter of fact!!!!!!!!!

Bout a Year

Monday, May 21st, 2007

We have been doing this blog about a year now. Every wonder how much stuff a blog can hold? I am gonna have to figgur that out one day. I guess when we get it filled up we dump it and start over.

It’s also just about the one year mark for Ram in the Army. It takes about a year to get the hang of military life. The current evolution his is in should end Friday. I just know someone should call the local steak house and tell them to stock up.  There will be some hungry people there soon.

Hopefully we will also be able to get an idea where Mowgli and Doc are. Everyone else is spread out too. Dog is in this evolution (Dog is formerly a Marine). We are not sure when the next training thing starts but, it won’t be long till Dog and Ram go different directions and learn different skills.

At the beginning of this thing when Ram showed me his enlistment papers, the first though I had was …. dang it’s gonna be a long hard road. I was right. Not only that but the long hard road to the goal line …. is just the start. In other words the hard ends and, the harder starts.

Life is good.

Commandant’s Letter to Retirees

Saturday, May 19th, 2007

Dear Fellow Marine,

Our Nation is at war-our Corps is at war-fighting a determined enemy bent on terror and domination.  Your fellow Marines need your help.  Our operational tempo has increased at the same time that the President has authorized the Marine Corps to grow, and it is for this reason that your Corps again needs you-not to return to active duty but to assume an active role in recruiting the next generation of Marines.  This kind of help can best be provided by those who have worn the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, and that’s why this letter is in your hands.

This important task requires the support of all Marines.  You are uniquely qualified and stragetically positioned to help influence the “influencers” who mentor today’s youth.  I ask that you, as a Marine, make a personal call to someone within your community - a teacher, a principal, a pastor, a coach-and help them to better understand the nature of our Corps.

Many of our countrymen do not understand that Once a Marine, always a Marine is a phrase that has stood the test of time and is a testimony to the enduring strength of our Corps.  The title of Marine is a privilege earned in boot camp, steeled by service to the Nation, and carried with dignity throughout life.  We live by our core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment- both as active Marines and as quality citizens after our time in the Corps is over.

We are calling a new generation of Marines to serve.  They will carry the battle tested colors of our Corps just as you once carried them-with honor and pride.  We still Make Marines, Win Battles, and Create Quality Citizens!  I ask for your continued commitment to ensure this tradition endures and our proud legacy prevails.

Semper Fi Marine!

James T Conway

General, U.S. Marine  Corps

Commandant of the Marine Corps

I have never received a letter from the Commandant that I ignored.

Aye Aye Sir.

Saturday Blogviating

And now a few photos:

Booger the Cat

Booger the Cat, always watchful.

Salt Water

And here is what the cat is watching … sometimes at least.

Garage Sale Day

Saturday time for a garage sale. They put a ‘for sale’ sign in the ole go cart …. and I think Julie and Peter were thinking about putting one on each other too.  Brothers and Sisters eh?

Motor Man

Just a few more trips around the circle … it’s summer almost yanno.

Add a blue car … a ladder … a slide and poof a popular slide. Next the kids plan to dig a huge hole under that ladder and fill it with water.

Swing

Nothing like a tree swing in the shade.

Swing Girl

Ahhhh nothing like the breeze of a treeswing in the shade.

Daisie

And of course Miss Daisie wanted to nose her way in there and say hi to Ram. Well as soon as he gets back from the Magical Forest.

Life is Good.

Can you believe?????

Friday, May 18th, 2007

It doesn’t seem that far back on the Cookie Crumb Trail, that the baby in the family often used the phrase, “Can you believe (insert stuff here like …. we are in High School ??? We are going to college??? We moved to Pittsburg and are living in a house??? We are gonna graduate shortly??? I am gonna move to a city in the east and work for XXX? Can you believe I am gonna get married?) These are the questions asked in wonder by the baby in the family Chris…. usually to his brother Ram, as they made their way through growing up.

Of course the answer was always … yes I believe. I believe in you and everyone in the family. I am proud of everyone in the family.

And now it’s time for me to say … can you believe???? can you believe Chris is moving Monday to the Creative Department where he works?

And the answer is well hell yes! Where else would you put a guy like that? You sure can’t hide his light under a basket.

Congratulations Bill Board Chris I just wish I could put your first ad up here but it is a tad too big. Maybe I should just hum Saturday Night Fever for everyone?

The Time Machine

Ram has been in the Magical Forest for 2 months. Pete has been in the Sandbox over a year. Soon they will pop out for a bit.

And to greet them … will be gas $3.15 (more or less) a gallon. Looking on the upside they have both saved a chunk of money on gas, not being able to drive his own truck (in Pete’s case) and not driving his truck for 3 months in Ram’s case.

So the bottom line is if you wanna save money on gas … enlist.

Summer is almost here time to get the camera out and snap a few photos of fun things like fishing … riding bikes .. tree swings et al.

I have students for  another week, then I work a week after that to get ready for next year.

Yea …. I have wanderlust.

Cute Kid

Ah hah another photo. Beth took this one. Looks like Eva likes her daddy. I also like this photo because it is a prime example of:

Small …… and Big.

Me and Dad

Any suggestions?

Dennis Moore of the CheeseEatingSurrenderMonkey fame is coming to town again. To justify spending tax payers money he is conducting a meeting for us peons. A whole hour and a half of “tell me what you are thinking time”.  Yea right. At a grocery store.

I don’t know if I can spare the time but …. I am thinking it would be fun to put a sign up in the back of the pick up and drive it round the parking lot while he is inside pretending to care.

If I did that … what should it say?  Write your suggestions in comments.

Here is his note:

At various times during the month, I hold Community Office Hours in the district. These give anyone a chance to come and talk to me about any issue of concern to them without having to make an appointment. You can meet with me to discuss legislative issues or business you or your family have before federal agencies. These events are held in a different location and county each time, hopefully making it so anyone who wants to talk to me will have a Community Office Hour close to them at some point.

Information about the next Community Office Hour is listed below. If you’re a resident of the Third District, I hope you’ll take the opportunity to stop by and tell me what’s on your mind.
