A couple more terms

Friday, July 27th, 2007

In light of the Democrat leadership we have this one:

Figurehead: This carved wooden figure placed at the bow had no function but to “see the way.” The term now denotes a person appointed to a leadership position, but with no real responsibilities.

Fill in the name of your favorite Democrat here __________________________

Slush Fund. Slush, a watery mixture of fats made from scraping empty meat storage barrels, was often sold ashore by the ship’s cook, who would pocket the profit. This money became known as a slush fund.

Wallop. Admiral Wallop of King Henry VIII’s navy gained notoriety after he and his ships were sent to the French coast to retaliate for the burning of the town of Brighton, England. He so thoroughly destroyed his enemy that his name now indicates a mighty blow.

Why would anyone become a Marine?

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

Summer is when I set up medical exams, dental exams etc.  So I have been busy lately checking them off.

Anyway …

A few days ago I found myself plunked down in Nurse Kratchet’s office as she filled out a medical history on me. I was dressed casually with a USMC Retired ball cap on.

Half way through the interview (Kratchet had already iritated me some with her style) this mid 40’s revealed her true colors.  She asked how much stress I had in my life. On a scale of 0 - 10 with 0 being none and 10 being meltdown.

I told her I was maybe at a 2 or 3 from time to time. She found that hard to believe. I found her lack of perspective hard to take. So I told her … stress is burning buildings, incoming fire, casualties and death.  Compared to the Marines there is little stress around here.

Bam … it started. She put down her pen and looked at me and said, I want to ask you about that. Why would anyone ever join the Marines. I do not understand why a person would do that.

Moonbat alert… a 40 something socialist bent nurse who decides to question the military.

From life experience I will tell you .. if a young person asks a question I try to answer it in a friendly and thorough way. When a 40 something witch asks that question it is because she wants to chastise. No answer is really wanted, she just wants to condem.

I leaned forward and pointed a finger in her face, and said, “Lady, All Marines are Crazy in a way you will never understand. They are all Crazy and … it is a Divine Madness.”  She paused, then went on with business.

At the end she thanked me for coming by. I told her she was welcome and that she was a totally moderately interesting person. Then I left.

Oh … Ma says I should stop that …. she says I tend to intimidate people.

Life is good.

The next day I went to drop some things off at Grandma’s and Grandpa’s house.Grandma said that Grandpa was going to get the camera for me to use!! Grandpa came out right when the sentence was finishing. He gave it to me and he said:”You know what this is for right?” “Yulp!” “O’ keedowkee.” So here is the Pictures I took:

Some may have seen this I am a bit late in pointing to it … but, I couldn’t believe it.

Volunteers form a human chain to honor fallen U.S. troops in World War Two and form

the words “France Will Never Forget” as a symbol of the friendship between France and the U.S.

Nautical Terms

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Why? I dunno maybe just a filler while we wait for a Jujubeans original.  The following terms are from the Navy Federal Credit Union Pub of Fal 2006. They obviously used it for a filler too.

Bamboozle: In the days of sailing, this modern term for deception meant disguising your ship’s nationality by flying colors that were not your own- a practice common among pirates. Today, an intentional deception among friends, usually meant as a joke, is said to be bamboozling.

Devil to Pay: Although now used primarily to warn of an unpleasant consequence, this phrase described a grueling job - caulking the longest seam, or “devil,” of a wooden ship. A sailor would use a pitch, known as “pay” to do the caulking.

Three Sheets to the Wind: If the “sheets” (the rope lines used to control the sails) flap and flutter in the breeze- and are said to be “in the wind.” A ship in this condition appears “drunk” because it shudders and staggers in the water, aimlessly floating.

Under the Weather: The bow of a ship that comes under the constant beating of the sea, or “under the weather” is where sailors below deck were most likely to become seasick. The phrase evolved to indicating feeling ill in today’s world.

For the pure fun of it

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

This is from Mike. It is a video on yahoo video of a really large B-29 bomber. A WWII era bomber of the type that dropped the Atom bomb on Japan.

It is carrying a red X-1 under one wing.

The video is impressive and includes a launch of the X-1 (the kind of thing Chuck Yeager piloted to break the sound barrier).

All in all impressive footage of the B-29 launch and flight and landing, and impressive launch and flight of the X1.

These guys are good.  Too bad our current drones and remotely piloted craft don’t look like these. They are cool.

Ram Update

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Well then it’s been sometime since we visited Ram and his excellent adventure. He is learning his trade.  He is still living in a room where it doesn’t rain in and he has a bed. We visited there and it looks sorta like a college dorm. He has his own bedroom, and shares an apartment with one other soldier. They both have private bedrooms and share a kitchen/bathroom.

They are located outside the Magical Forest. Monday Ram’s group goes back to language training. They tend to bounce these guys around some so they don’t have a chance to get in a real rut.

One thing that the guys in his group will not miss is their Cadre leader who is a marathoner. Ten miles is a fair distance to run in formation. Those of you who have run in formation know how the danged thing accordians as you go. Lag … speed up … lag … speed up. Sounds to me like the only way this guy is gonna have any friends on the base is if he buys a dog.

Anyway, Ram’s truck is running good and life is fine. The end of this month marks the halfway point in this training. After that … the final comprehensive exam.

Congratulations Rep Moore

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

You have arrived …. keep going! Below is my latest letter:

Congressman Dennis Moore
1727 Longworth House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515

Dear Congressman Moore,
Congratulations your current path has brought you to here.“Eighteen months before Bush leaves the White House, nearly two-thirds of Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction and give the president negative marks for his job performance.

An even bigger majority, 83 percent, say the Democratic-controlled Congress is doing only a fair or poor job — the worst mark for Congress in a Zogby poll.”

That would be you Congressman Moore. Continue your present path, and may I recommend Careers.com as a tool in finding your new job.

It’s tough to pretend to be a moderate, while being led around by Nancy Pelosi and the other anti American democratic leaders.

Democrats Refuse to Meet with Veterans!

Democratic Leaders Refuse to Meet With Veterans Group!

Vets for Freedom expresses disappointment that veterans were not able to meet with Congressional leadership from both sides of the aisle in Congress today. While many Republican Senators, including leadership, made themselves available for questions and input, interaction from Democratic leadership was noticeably absent. In spite of that, Vets for Freedom members remain committed to speaking with elected leaders on both sides of the aisle.

Republican leadership (and some Democrats, although not leadership) made room in their busy schedules—on very short notice—to speak with veterans. These veterans flew in on their own dime to ask Congress to give General David Petraeus the time he needs to fully implement the surge of American forces in Iraq. Veterans are very grateful and thankful for the time that these Senators took to spend with them.

May they all receive what they deserve .. like a no expense paid trip home next election.
